Best Place to Shop: 1964

I've been looking for an ice crusher for frappucinos and margaritas. (Sure, some people seem to be able to throw ice cubes right into their blenders and froth up snowy-smooth blended drinks. My blender doesn't do that. At best, it gives a chilled drink with big lumps of ice sculpted to a nearly spherical shape.)

Well, ice crusher choices sure are slim in the "new" department. There are a few units between $50 and $100 that have an awful lot of negative reviews on Amazon. Or I could buy a new refrigerator.

But it turns out that Oster used to make ice-crusher attachments for blenders, and the vintage units are fairly plentiful on EBay. So for under $25 (including shipping!) I got this fine specimen:


Circa 1964. A bit noisy, but works great! And it comes with recipes for every member of the family:


The recipes call it the "Oster-Icer". (Get it?)
